The European Moral Responsibility Consortium (EMRC) is a platform devoted to facilitating coordination and cooperation among philosophers based in Europe who are working in the area of moral responsibility and related fields and topics (free will, blame, collective responsibility, punishment, moral responsibility and AI, etc.). The platform is also open to people from outside Europe.
The EMRC was established to carry on the legacy of the Lund Gothenburg Responsibility Project (LGRP), a ten-year project led by Paul Russell and funded by the Swedish Research Council. The LGRP not only significantly advanced European responsibility scholarship, but also fostered networking among responsibility researchers from different parts of Europe. As the project was coming to an end in 2024, Maria Alvarez (London), Benjamin De Mesel (Leuven), Leonhard Menges (Salzburg), and András Szigeti (Lund) came together to ensure the continuation of this informal network in the form of the EMRC.
The EMRC is currently primarily managed by Leonhard Menges and Leonie Eichhorn from the Salzburg Ethics Group at the University of Salzburg, who are also organizing the Second Conference of the European Moral Responsibility Consortium.
